Casting a birth chart for this blog

I thought it would be neat to go through the process of casting a chart. We are using tropical (western) astrology with the whole sign house system.

To cast the chart, we will need the date, time, latitude, and longitude of the blog’s birth.

I published the first post that I didn’t archive (Calculating Sidereal Time) at 8:21pm CDT on November, 4th 2019. This is the date and time that this blog was born.

The Planets

First, we use Nasa’s JPL Horizons to get the planet’s positions at the time and date of birth.

UTC: 2:21am November 5th 2019

Moon = 319.6877318
Sun = 222.3656096
Mercury = 236.1531803
Venus = 244.0347500
Mars = 200.6830179
Jupiter = 264.1502263
Saturn: = 285.7196926
Uranus = 34.2914451
Neptune = 346.0671289
Pluto = 290.8983240

You can also add whatever astroids you want. I’m going to add Odin, Cynthia, and Pan.

Odin = 247.5084822
Cynthia = 122.4108151
Pan = 112.5395035

The Ascendant and Midheaven

Now we need to figure the Asc, Dsc, Mc, and Ic.

But first

Before we can figure the Asc and Dc, we need to figure the earth’s axial tilt and the local sidereal time.

Earth’s axial tilt

EAT = 23.4392794444 - 46.8367769 * T - 0.0001831 * T2 + 0.00200340 * T3 - (0.576 * 10^-6) * T4 - (4.34 *10^-8) * T5

T = (JDTT - 2451545.0)/36525
JDTT = 367Y - INT(7(Y + INT((M + 9)/12))/4) - INT(3(INT((Y + (M - 9)/7)/100) + 1)/4) + INT(275M/9) + D + 1721028.5 + TIMETT/24
TT = UTC + leap seconds added to UTC to date + 32.184seconds

TT = 2.36644
JDTT = 2458792.5986
T = 0.19842843531/3600
EAT = 23.4366978481

Local Sidereal Time

LST = (2pi(0.7790572732640 + 1.00273781191135448 * D)) + (0.014506 + 4612.156534T + 1.3915817T2 – 0.00000044T3 – 0.000029956T4 – 0.0000000368T5) + longitude

D = JDUTC – 2451545.0
T = (JDTT – 2451545.0)/36525
JDUTC = 367Y – INT(7(Y + INT((M + 9)/12))/4) – INT(3(INT((Y + (M – 9)/7)/100) + 1)/4) + INT(275M/9) + D + 1721028.5 + TIMEUTC/24 TT = UTC + leap seconds added to UTC to date + 32.184seconds

D = 7247.59792
T = 0.19842843531
JDUTC = 2458792.59792
LST = 344.5542902235

Finally,

Asc = atan2(-cos(LST)/(sin(LST)*cos(EAT) + tan(LAT)+sin(EAT)))
Mc = atan2(tan(LST)/cos(EAT))
Dsc = Asc + 180
Ic = Mc + 180

Asc = 91.4417449754
Mc = 343.240368219
Dsc = 271.441744975
Ic = 163.240368219

Aspects

I used an orb of around 5 degrees for all these aspects. I also did them loosely by hand.

Asc sextile Uranus
MC trine Sun
MC sextile Saturn
MC conjunct Neptune
IC sextile Sun
IC trine Saturn
IC opposed Neptune
Odin conjunct Venus
Cynthia trine Venus
Cynthia square Uranus
Pan trine Mercury
Pan square Mars
Pan opposed Pluto
Moon trine Mars
Sun sextile Saturn
Sun trine Neptune
Mars sextile Jupiter
Mars square Pluto
Saturn sextile Neptune

The houses

The equal house system is super simple. The first house starts at the beginning of the sign the Asc is in. Each house spans 30 degrees so they each take up a whole sign.

H1 = 90 – Cancer
H2 = 120 – Leo
H3 = 150 – Virgo
H4 = 180 – Libra
H5 = 210 – Scorpio
H6 = 240 – Sagittarius
H7 = 270 – Capricorn
H8 = 300 – Aquarius
H9 = 330 – Pisces
H10 = 0 – Aries
H11 = 30 – Taurus
H12 = 60 – Gemini

We can now put everything in its house.

Moon in 8th house
Sun in 5th house
Mercury in 5th house
Venus in 6th house
Mars in 4th house
Jupiter in 6th house
Saturn: in 7th house
Uranus in 11th house
Neptune in 9th house
Pluto in 7th house

Odin in 6th house
Cynthia in 2nd house
Pan in 1st house

Asc in 1st house
Mc in 9th house
Dsc in 7th house
Ic in 3rd house

The signs

Finally, we can put everything in its sign.

Moon in Aquarius
Sun in Scorpio
Mercury in Scorpio
Venus in
Sagittarius
Mars in Libra
Jupiter in Sagittarius
Saturn in Capricorn
Uranus in Taurus
Neptune in Pisces
Pluto in Capricorn

Odin in Sagittarius
Cynthia in Leo
Pan in Cancer

Asc in Cancer
Mc in Pisces
Dsc in Capricorn
Ic in Virgo

And that’s that! That’s a natal chart casted by hand. Easy, right? It took me several (10+) hours to do. Now we can say things like Cynthia is in Leo, in the 2nd house, trine Venus and Square Uranus. We could also draw this if we wanted.
